earn to be a singer/guitarist here in Hong Kong! Top international teacher Mike Carrington a.k.a. Mike Barry, has been teaching folks to play guitar in various parts of the world for many years.. He has been teaching in Hong Kong for over 25 years at international schools, adult evening institutes and privately. He has actually been a singer/guitarist and songwriter for over 40 years, During the 1960's he was a session musician playing on many recordings of those great days as well as touring with his band, the Vibratones!  As lead guitarist with the Vibratones Mike became famous for his unique playing style and speed. The Vibratones toured Germany and played at various clubs and American army bases. Whilst there, they did one show with visiting US comic star Morey Amsterdam of "Dick Van Dyke Show" fame. In the UK they appeared with the Hollies, the Barron Knights, the Zombies, Billy J. Kramer and the Dakotas, PJ Proby and the Tremeloes. They made many recordings during the '60's period including cover versions of "Under The Boardwalk", "The Great Pretender", "Talahassie Lassie", "Raining In My Heart" and "Trying To Get To You". Sadly these recordings are now long-deleted and therefore unobtainable, although Mike does have some precious copies of them on cassette. Should anyone anywhere have any of the Vibratones original recordings, please contact Mike and he may be able to restore them to their former glory using digital technology! During his long musical career Mike has also played bass, drums, keyboards and harmonica. In 1978 Mike won a coveted Entertainer of the Year award in England prior to returning to Hong Kong in 1980. Two months after his return to Hong Kong, Mike starred in cabaret in his own show for 3 nights at the Holiday Inn Golden Mile. Backed by a superb Filipino house band, Mike's show was a sell-out and received rave reviews from the media. He continued to sing in various nightclubs throughout Hong Kong, and was the star attraction at the Lord in Kowloon. He remains Hong Kong's King Of The Oldies, and one of the last remaining authentic musical links to the '50's and '60's. His best-selling album of self-penned songs was released in 1997. The title song "The Sun Will Shine Again" has made Mike known to music lovers all over the world.
Mike has recently become the first guitar tutor in Hong Kong (actually the whole of China!) to be invited to join the International Registry Of Guitar Tutors. He has also been a member of CASH (Composers and Authors Society of Hong Kong) since 2002.
